Recipe Description
If I’m going to go through the trouble to buy or actually make a specialty ingredient, I’m going to get my money’s worth! My favorite specialty ingredient during the Holidays is spiced brown sugar syrup which I never seem to run out of applications for: Clementine Sour, Miro’s Miracle, Santa’s Whiskey Flip and perhaps most delicious, this Cold Apple Pie cocktail. Another worthwhile effort is homemade cinnamon whiskey, which also features in this recipe.
You can serve it how you like it–hot, cold, with whipped cream, without–but I like it served cold and “deluxe style” – all the trimmings: whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs, ground walnuts & fresh grated cinnamon on top!
It’s way more fun than plain old apple pie and just as delicious–maybe moreso!
Ingredients
-
2 ounces cinnamon whiskey
(see recipe) -
2 ounces apple cider
I used honeycrisp cider -
1 ounce spiced brown sugar syrup
(see recipe) -
3 BIG dashes Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters
Another specialty ingredient this drink could work without but it adds such a delicious, distinctly walnut finish to the drink, I wouldn't call it an Apple Pie cocktail without it! -
Garnish whipped cream, graham crumbs, grated cinnamon, crushed walnuts
some, none or all--it's up to you! (if I had thought of a cherry I probably would have put that on top too!)
Preparation
Put a sour glass, coupe or similar in the freezer.
Combine all ingredients except the garnish in a shaker with ice.
Shake thoroughly.
*This drink can be served warm! Just shake without ice, pour into a cup & microwave until warm…garnish as desired!
Service
Strain cocktail into chilled glass. If desired, top with whipped cream and or other garnishes.
